About Syril and Anibus – Anibus Studios

Hi, my name is Syril.

I am a Fine Artist
and
Decorative Painter

I was born in Iowa City, Iowa. Home to the University of Iowa.

My parents met while attending the University of Iowa. My father was getting his master’s degree in painting, my mother was studying for her master’s degree under world renown artist and printmaker Mauricio Lasansky.

After high school I moved to Chicago to attend The School of the Art Institute. I graduated in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and started Anibus Studios.

Anibus Studios

Anibus Studios was originally founded in 1986 by myself and two friends out of a loft building on Justine St., located on the West side of Chicago. They painted murals, faux finishes, marbleizing and other specialty finishes for over one hundred restaurants, hotels, night clubs and countless residential clients.

For more than a decade we lived and worked out of the 7,000 Sq. Ft. loft that encompassed the front sections of two floors of the building.

In the years that followed Anibus Studios did projects with both commercial and residential clients in the Chicago area and beyond. A few examples shown below include a project for the infamous Palmer House Hotel in downtown Chicago for whom we marbleized over one hundred colimns on one floor and eleven sets of elevator doors on another floor to match the inlayed marble on the floor.
